Some say bellydance is one of the oldest forms of dance - having deep roots in women's circles celebrating life & preparing for marriage or birth, & to strengthen the core and womb postpartum.
The sensuously exotic movements of bellydance (raqs sharqi) are a meditative workout that attunes yourself to your body, while it tones muscles in the torso, arms, and legs. Undulating movements work deep in the core to isolate with both staccato and smoothness. Bellydance is a great way to build confidence, connect to your sacred sensuality, and learn to love your body exactly as it is. We all have beauty and feminine power despite what advertisements and marketing might suggest to us - embracing it is crucial to living a life full of yes and joy. Rooting into the basics of bellydance - for beginners and continuing students alike- will free up your mind & body in new ways to enhance your dance practice, daily movements, sexuality, and thinking!
In this workshop, we'll touch on bellydance history, then draw from our innate movement knowledge to tune into our bodies with a quick stretch & warm up. Basic bellydance isolations will be explained and drilled from the top of the head to the tips of the toes. We might even learn a short combination for you to show off later!
